With music by Ciconia, Corea, Hatzis, Satie and more.

If you look directly up towards the sky you can visualise the highest point of the celestial sphere, the zenith. This imaginary point describes anything exactly above a particular location. In exploring and extending this idea, our programme boldly inhabits the electric fields of original and arranged repertoire for recorders and different types of violins.

Zenith blends medieval melodies with electronic sounds and haunting traditional tunes with innocent song. Just a few original compositions were available to our duo, yet the programme offers arrangements spanning 800 years of repertoire, including original electronic compositions by Jorge. Fluent connections of musical styles present a wealth of sound colours that let the light in as often as they invite darkness.

Adelaide Baroque are thrilled to be able to present this duo from Germany on their Australian tour.

Delve into the Baroque’s fascination with emulating the human voice as two virtuosi transport you to a time when instruments spoke the language of the heart. From spellbinding diminutions on 16th century madrigals to emotive and melodic 17th century arias, their performance recreates the rich tapestry of vocal expression. Be enchanted by the beauty and emotional depth of music by D’India, Rognoni, Caccini and others, as harp and recorder weave harmonious tales of love, longing, and pure artistry.

Anne Whelan | harpsichord

The two stunning soprano voices of Kate Macfarlane and Emma Horwood together with harpsichordist Anne Whelan combine with delicacy and grace to perform Baroque duets by Cozzolani, Strozzi, Monteverdi and Handel, and the Baroque masterpiece “Troisième Leçon de Ténèbre” (1714) by François Couperin written for the nuns of the Abbaye de Longchamps.

Sunday October 13th, 3.00pm

Nicholas Pollock | theorbo

In this program, Nicholas Pollock performs music from early 17th century Italy on the sublime and enchanting theorbo. The programs focuses on the works of three of the most significant composers for the theorbo: Kapsperger, Castaldi and Piccinini. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear some of the most beautiful and inspiring music from one of the most neglected repertoires.
